A few months ago, a user on a Batfamily-centric Discord server I'm in put out a call for DC stories under 500 words to be put together in a digital zine, to be called Faster Than the Batmobile. The result was a fantastic collection of ficlets and sketches, and as the zine is now out, I've spent the past week posting each of the seven stories I wrote for it on my own accounts. The first two are canon compliant, and the remaining five are part of my Corners series. ) This morning, I woke to find a related work notification from AO3 in my email inbox. To my surprise and delight, sweaters_in_the_summer made a podfic of one of my Harry Potter one-shots, which is titled You Know I Love You. I originally wrote it for a Mother's Day event almost nine(!) years ago, and to have it unexpectedly take on a new form is a lovely feeling. Hi! Here’s another old draft from Family Crisis. It’s Dick’s POV of a small part of the second scene (the panic attack) in Chapter 10: Countdown, before I decided to make the first twelve chapters entirely from Bruce’s POV.
Note that because this is an old draft, the contents of the box here differ from what I ended up going with. I wrote this scene (probably the oldest in this story) back in 2019, before Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular came out, in which there’s a story where a young Jason mends Bruce’s father’s watch as a birthday gift. Because of this (and also because I thought gifting a watch was a bit cliche), I decided to come up with something else for Bruce to give Dick.
( This goes out to Miizzllaneous on AO3, who asked what Dick thought Bruce was going to do when he took out the box. ) Hi :)
First, thank you for all the lovely comments on Family Crisis, especially on Chapter 21. That scene in the Batcave is very dear to my heart, and a big reason why I began writing this fic in the first place. I am also gratified that there is such love for how I write Cass! 🖤
Second, you may have noticed that updates have slowed somewhat, and I haven't posted a new chapter since before Christmas. There are a couple of reasons for this, but they boil down to 1) general real-life busyness and 2) taking a while to realise that the reason why Chapter 22 would not come together was that I was approaching it from the wrong angle. I never intended such a long break between chapters, but now that the problem has been sorted, Chapter 22 should be posted within a week or two. Expect more of Bruce, Dick, Tim and maybe even a special guest...
In the meantime, I posted two deleted scenes on my Dreamwidth back in December that you might like to read.
Lastly, I know it says on AO3 that there will be 23 chapters, but since some scenes ended up much longer than originally planned, there will almost definitely be more than that—probably 24 or 25.

Inspired by other end-of-year ventures like Spotify Wrapped, the ever-creative Krow (TheyReapWhatWeSow) shared an AO3 Wrapped template that she created in a mutual Batfamily Discord server, and I had so much fun filling it out that I'm sharing it again here. I had a good year of posting on AO3, though if I'd known I was so close to posting 100,000 words in 2023, I would have pushed myself to publish something else to get me over that line! Oh well.

Here are two deleted scenes (or early drafts) from Family Crisis. The first is Dick finally waking up from his illness after Jack Drake’s death; I swapped the order of events in the final version. The second is an incomplete scene of Dick seeking Bruce after a nightmare, which originally took place after his panic attack in the Batcave, but before he confronted Tarantula. The closest thing to it in the final story is the beginning of Dick’s scene in Chapter 14: Unexpected Visitors.
